One frustration I have with some social-media platforms (like X and TikTok) is that they only allow for one hyperlink in a user’s bio.
On these platforms, an author must choose which single website makes the most sense to direct readers to. The answer for many (including me) is their author website.
But other authors like to link to their book-page on Amazon, which also makes sense. There’s a school of thought that an author should reduce the number of online clicks required for a reader to purchase their book. Thus, an author linking directly to their book’s product page (on the world’s most popular online store) would seem like a sound strategy.
Next, consider this: Some authors are better known for other things than they are their books. This would include entertainers, stand-out athletes, professional columnists, and others. Let’s take the columnist example: If an author is a notable writer for a prestigious or popular publication, they may want to use the single link their social-media bio allows them to take people to their work at that publication… rather than to their author website or Amazon page.
Decisions, decisions, decisions…
