What You Should Put in Your Author Newsletter
Every author should have a newsletter. Here's how to make yours work for you.
Hi authors!
Just a quick note before we get started today... If you haven’t heard the big news yet, BQB Publishing now has an online store where you can purchase professional book-publishing and marketing services (at a reasonable price) to help you achieve your author goals! They include video book trailers, promotional interviews, author websites, phone consultations, social-media content, and more. And if you’re a paid subscriber to this newsletter… you get a 20% discount on most of those services. (Details on the discount are at the bottom of today’s newsletter).
Now, onto today’s topic…
Back in June, I wrote a piece about the importance of having an author-newsletter, and how impressed I am with the Substack platform (which makes newsletters easy, and includes lots of helpful features). What I didn’t write much about was the type of content that authors should include in their newsletters.
Let’s talk about that today.
As a longtime columnist, I like to start things off with a short, observational opinion-piece or anecdote (that largely avoids sensitive topics like politics or religion). But really, that’s not the primary purpose of an author newsletter. More than anything, it’s a tool for showing some love to your subscribers — established fans or supporters who, by subscribing to your newsletter (and giving you their email address), have expressed their interest in, or affection for, you and your books!
That’s a big deal, when you think about it. Among the more than 8 billion people who live on this planet, it’s these select few who have welcomed you into their email inbox. So, when you write to them, it’s important to keep their interests in mind.
Here are some methods for nurturing that relationship, and turning it into book sales…
